ISD students published in local magazine

Talented student artists and writers at ISD benefit when writing and art teachers get involved! Every spring, the Council Bluffs Optimist Clubs judge local submissions and produce the literary magazine, The Write Touch, featuring the best work of Council Bluffs middle school and high school students.
This year, ISD students who earned a spot in the magazine were Ethan Vetick (6th grader from Mondamin), Holly Schroeder (sophomore from Council Bluffs) and Ryenne Frieze (senior from Council Bluffs). Each of the students received a plaque noting their accomplishments. Their work is featured below.
I am Deaf
Ryenne Frieze

I am Deaf

They are hearing

Communication struggle

miscommunication, miscommunication, miscommunication

Walk Away – Walk Away – Walk Away

lonely, disguise, sadness

I am frustrated

They are oppressive

A Deaf group?

join, sign language, reveal who I am

Friend – Friend – Friend,

smile, remove disguise, reveal who I am more

They are hearing

communication, struggle, miscommunication

But Deaf

communication – communication – communication

They are hearing but have open minds

They are hearing but with smiles

We are Deaf now smiling

I am smiling

I have friends
