Deaf Mountaineers & Explorers

Join us for an inspiring and learning hour for students who are deaf or hard of hearing! Iowa School for the Deaf hosts Shayna Unger and Scott Lehmann who are on a mission to be the first Deaf climbers to summit (climb) the 7 highest mountains in the world. Learn more about Shayna & Scott’s mission here.  Students will learn about setting goals, how Shayna and Scott solve challenges, geography of the mountains, vocabulary related to climbing and more.

Hosted on the campus of Iowa School for the Deaf. Event spans two days, depending on age of student:

Wednesday, Nov. 30, Lied Multipurpose Complex

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.: High school students

1-2 p.m.: Middle school students (6th – 8th grade)

 

Thursday, Dec. 1, Old Gym

10-10.30 a.m.: Preschool & Kindergarten students

12.30-1.30 p.m.: Elementary students (grades 1-5)

 

Free event. Interpreters provided.

Transportation for non-ISD students is not provided to or from this event.
