Local golf event sends kids to camp

Southwest Iowa Leadership Camp offers a four-day leadership experience to area middle school students, including several from Iowa School for the Deaf. The camp needs about $30,000 and is seeking the community's help in the form of a golf scramble fundraiser. Summers at Iowa School for the Deaf are celebrated. School-aged students across the state, regardless of their communication modes, look forward to our camps all year long. At camp, everyone fits in. Grand Prize winner; 4 other winners at national literacy contest

The Gallaudet National Literary Competition is held annually to challenge and inspire deaf and hard of hearing students 2nd through 12th grades to compete and showcase their ASL and writing skills. This year, three ISD students were first place winners in the categories of Middle School Creative Writing, High School Creative Writing, and High School ASL Literary Handshape. Services

Health Center Round-the-clock care is provided by registered nurses who administer medication and care for injured or ill students. When necessary, a licensed interpreter from Iowa School for the Deaf accompanies students to local medical and dental appointments. Annual vision and dental screenings are held at the health center. Local pediatricians, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists and other healthcare professionals are utilized as needed.
