So your child, tween or teenager is exhibiting some strange social behavior, odd mannerisms or something else that just doesn’t seem normal, even for his or her age. Is it a passing stage, or Is It a Deaf Thing? Vicki Hunting, parent of a deaf teenager, president of Iowa Hands and Voices and parent coordinator of Guide By Your Side, shares the topic. Time permitting, Hunting will recap the highlights of last year’s national Hands & Voices conference.

The Hearing Sibling

Siblings and parents from around the state will lead this panel discussion on what works to encourage communication and how they keep their families “normal.” Panelists will reflect on the responsibilities and expectations they have, which sometimes differ between deaf and hearing children.
